Pakistani star Mahira Khan, famous for her on-screen charm, has spoken out against an incident where an object was thrown at her during an event in Quetta, calling it “unacceptable.”
Mahira took to Instagram to express her dismay, stating, “No one should think it’s okay to throw something on stage, even if it’s just a flower wrapped in a paper plane. It sets the wrong example. This behavior is unacceptable.”
The incident occurred while Mahira was attending the Pakistan Literature Festival (PLF) in Quetta. An unidentified person from the crowd threw an object at her, which did not hit her but left her visibly shaken and disappointed.
“This is wrong,” Mahira said, as her conversation with the host was interrupted by the object thrown from the audience.
Despite admitting that she sometimes fears for her safety and that of others in potentially “mob-like” situations, Mahira opposed the idea of canceling events in Quetta due to such incidents.
“There was a crowd of 10,000 or more showing their love and excitement in their own way. The troublemaker was just one among thousands,” she emphasized, adding that avoiding events is not the solution.
Mahira advocated for more events in various cities across Pakistan, stating, “We need more events like these in more cities. The more people are exposed, the more they become aware and educated. Normalize it and see the positive change.”
Reflecting on the incident, Mahira said, “Maybe I should’ve gotten up and left, or maybe the crowd could’ve been screened better.”
Despite the incident, Mahira had a positive experience during her stay in Quetta and hinted at future visits. “I met amazing people, shared stories, laughed, and made plans for my next visit. I love you Quetta. Thank you for the overwhelming love,” she wrote.
“There will be a next time, and each time, we will be better. InshAllah,” she concluded.
Such incidents, while unfortunate, are not uncommon when public figures attend large gatherings. Many celebrities worldwide have faced similar actions from a few individuals, which can unfairly tarnish the image of the entire audience.
