Iran carried out retaliatory drone and missile strikes on Israel late on Saturday night.

Iran fired more than 200 drones and missiles towards Israel. Israel, the United States of America and Jordan joined hands to destroy the Iranian drones and missiles in the air. However, it has yet to be ascertained how many Iranian drones and missiles were destroyed in the air and how many of them hit the targets inside Israel.

The Iranian strikes on Israel came days after Israel carried out airstrikes on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, killing seven of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, two of them generals.

After the late night strikes on Israel, Iran said the matter is over now, but it will retaliate if Israel carries out any further strikes.

As soon as the news of the Iranian attack on Israel broke, thousands of Iranian took to the streets in capital Tehran and celebrated their government’s decision to respond to the Israeli aggression.

US President Joe Biden condemned the Iranian attack on Israel, but said he would oppose Israeli counterattack on Israel. Taking to X, Biden wrote, “I just met with my national security team for an update on Iran’s attacks against Israel. Our commitment to Israel’s security against threats from Iran and its proxies is ironclad.”

Commenting on the war-like situation developing in the Middle Eastern region, Saudi Arabia urged Iran and Israel to show restraint and ensure the security of people.

In a related development, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the escalation in the Middle East.
