India is my home and India is bleeding,” Bollywood diva says in a heartfelt appeal for help after setting up GiveIndia fund
As the coronavirus pandemic has spiralled out of control in India and the poor health infrastructure of the country has collapsed under the burden of the ever-increasing number of Covid-19 patients in many states, Bollywood celebrities are coming forward to help their people in these testing times.
Bollywood diva Priyanka Chopra Jonas is one of these celebrities who are out to help their people in one way or the other. She announced on Wednesday that she has set up a fund titled GiveIndia for the coronavirus patients and appealed to people to donate generously for the people who are suffering heavily in the wake of collapse of the health infrastructure in the country.
In a video message released on Twitter from London, Priyanka said, “Why do we need to care? Why is it so urgent right now? I’m sitting in London and hearing from my friends and family in India about how hospitals are out of capacity, there are no rooms in ICUs, ambulances are too busy, oxygen supply is less, crematoriums are having mass cremations because the volume of deaths is so much. India is my home and India is bleeding. And we as a global community need to care.
“And I will tell you why we need to care. Because unless everyone is safe, no one is safe. So, please use your resources and focus your energies on helping stop this pandemic. Please donate. I understand a lot of people must be angry and thinking about, you know, why are we in this place in the first place. Why is this happening? But we will address that. We will address that after we stop the urgency. Please donate and please use your resources as much as you can. India needs you.”
