LAHORE – Soon after he survived an assassination attempt, former prime minister Imran Khan named three people allegedly involved in the gun attack on him and his party men during the long march near Gujranwala on Thursday.
Khan, who was taken to Shaukat Khanum Hospital in Lahore with a bullet wound to his leg, after the gun attack, called his party’s key leader Asad Umar to the hospital and told him to issue a statement on his behalf and the name the culprits.
In a video message now circulating on social media, Asad Umar said, “He [Imran Khan] called me and Mian Aslam Iqbal a short while ago and he asked us to release this statement on his behalf. He said I already had some information, but we were not aware of it.
“He said he was dead sure three people were involved in all this [the gun attack] and those three people are [Prime Minister] Shehbaz Sharif, [Interior Minister] Rana Sanaullah and Major General Faisal. He said he already had this information and he is saying this on the basis of this [information]. These people are involved in this murder attempt.
“And the demand is that these three should be removed from their offices. And if they are not removed from their offices, there will be a nationwide agitation. This is not possible that Pakistan continues to run with normal circumstances until these three are removed. Khan has given this message to the entire nation.”
