LAHORE – Ousted Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan and five others were wounded in a gun attack carried out by a man present in his long march near Gujranwala on Thursday.
One person was also killed in the attack, while people captured the fleeing suspect carrying a short gun and handed him over to the police.
According to initial reports, Imran Khan received a bullet to his leg and was taken to Shaukat Khanum Hospital in Lahore for treatment. Speaking to the media shortly after Khan was brought to the hospital, Dr Faisal Sultan said Khan was in a stable condition with bullet wounds to his legs.
Soon after the incident, protests broke out in many parts of Pakistan. People came out in large numbers in big cities like Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sialkot and Faisalabad and raised slogans against the Shehbaz Sharif-led federal government, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and the establishment.
