Imran Khan arrested in Toshakhana case, sent to Kot Lakhpat Jail

Former prime minister Imran Khan’s lawyer Intazar Hussain Panjutha said on Saturday that Khan has been arrested.

Panjutha said the police broke down the doors of Imran Khan’s house and arrested him.

Imran Khan was arrested by Punjab Police from his Zaman Park residence in Lahore shortly after Islamabad judge Humayun Dilawar sentenced him to three years in jail in the Toshakhana case. The PTI Punjab confirmed the reports of his arrest via a tweet: “Imran Khan is being moved to Kot Lakhpat Jail.”

An Islamabad court has convicted Imran Khan of corrupt practices, disqualified him for five years and sentenced him to three years in jail. The court also imposed a Rs100000 fine on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman.

“Imran Khan deliberately submitted fake details [of Toshakhana gifts] to the ECP and is found guilty of corrupt practices,” the judge said and sent the PTI chief to jail for three years under Section 174 of the Election Act.

ADSJ Dilawar also told the officials to send a copy of the order to the Islamabad police chief for the execution of the court orders.

Before the proceedings began on Saturday in the Toshakhana case, a large contingent of police was deployed outside the court and only lawyers were allowed inside the courtroom. However, neither Imran nor his lawyers were present during the hearing.
