Prime Minister Imran Khan got vaccinated against coronavirus on Thursday.
After receiving the vaccination in the federal capital, the prime minister appealed to people to strictly follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) prepared by the government for prevention of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
A vaccination campaign has been launched in the entire country. In the first phase, people above 60 years of age and front line health workers are being administered coronavirus vaccination across Pakistan.
As the third wave of coronavirus hit Pakistan early in March, the government moved quickly to curb the spread of the pandemic. As a precautionary measure, the government ordered closure of hotels, restaurants, shopping malls and big markets at 6PM on a daily basis. Also, the government ordered closure of schools from March 15 to March 28 despite the fact that annual exams were under way in some schools at the time of closure.
The drastic government step came after the number of coronavirus cases started rising in the country. On March 17, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said that Covid-19 claimed 61 lives and infected 3,495 people in 24 hours.
