BAJAUR – At least 40 people were martyred and more than 120 wounded in a suicide bombing at a Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) workers convention in Bajaur on Sunday.
The suicide bombing was carried out when more than 400 JUI-F members and supporters gathered under a tent in the town of Khar, near Pakistan’s restive border with Afghanistan.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Riaz Anwar told the media, “I can confirm that in the hospital we have 39 dead bodies, with 123 wounded that include 17 patients in a serious condition.”
The Bajaur suicide bombing coincides with the arrival of Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in Islamabad on a three-day visit to mark 10 years of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Maulana Ziaullah Jan Haqqani, the Ameer of JUI-F in Tehsil Khar, is among the martyrs.
