Amir Zulfiqar appointed Punjab Police IG

ISLAMABAD — The federal government has appointed Muhammad Amir Zulfiqar the new inspector general of the Punjab Police.

The move comes at a time when ousted prime minister Imran Khan is going to dissolve the Punjab Assembly.

However, the coalition government of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and allegedly backed by Pakistan’s military establishment is trying to save the assembly in Pakistan’s most populous province.

Zulfiqar, an officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) from the 19th Common, was working as deputy director general of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) before appointment as Punjab Police IG. He joined the police service in 1991.

Earlier, he served as IG of the National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) and IG of Islamabad Police.
