RAWALPINDI – Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir has said the Pakistan Army is not only ready to defend the country but also capable of taking the fight back to the enemy if war is imposed.

General Asim Munir, who assumed charge as the new chief of the Pakistan Army on November 29 this year, has issued this statement in response to some recent belligerent statements issued by India’s political and military leadership.

A few days ago, Indian Army’s Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi said the “Indian army is ready to execute orders” to take the part of Kashmir being administered by Pakistan.

During his first visit to frontline troops in Rakhchikri Sector on the Line of Control (LOC) on Saturday after assuming command of the Pakistan Army, General Asim said, “We have noticed highly irresponsible statements from Indian leadership on GB & AJK recently. Let me make it categorically clear, Pakistan’s armed forces are ever ready, not only to defend every inch of our motherland, but to take the fight back to the enemy, if ever, war is imposed on us.”

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), media wing of the Pakistan Army, General Asim said, “Any misconception resulting into a misadventure will always be met with full might of our armed forces backed by a resilient nation.

“Indian state will never be able to achieve her nefarious designs. The world must ensure justice and deliver what is promised to the Kashmiri people as per UN resolutions,” the ISPR quoted the new army chief as saying.

Responding to Dwivedi’s remarks a few days ago, the ISPR had called his “lofty claims and surreal ambition intellectually insulting”.

Dwivedi, who heads the northern command of the Indian Army, had issued the aforementioned statement in response to Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement last month that India would attack and take the Pakistani side of Kashmir.

“As far as the Indian army is concerned, it will carry out any order given by the Government of India. Whenever such orders are given, we will always be ready for it,” Dwivedi was quoted as saying by Indian broadcaster NDTV.

During his visit to the LoC, COAS Asim Munir was briefed about the latest situation on the Line of Control and operational preparedness of the formation.

The COAS interacted with officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army and praised them for their high morale, professional competence and combat readiness while performing their duties in challenging conditions.

Earlier, Rawalpindi Corps Commander Lieutenant General Shahid Imtiaz received COAS Asim Munir on his arrival in Rakhchikri Sector.
