The news of the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice President Sher Afzal Khan Marwat, a key member of former prime minister Imran Khan’s legal team, spread like a wild fire on Friday.

However, there were conflicting reports about Marwat’s arrest by a large contingent of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police in the Chakdara town of Lower Dir District. The PTI initially said that Marwat had been “kidnapped” by the KP Police. However, the KP Police denied they have arrested Marwat.

A couple of messages shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, from Marwat’s official handle suggested he was able to dodge the police with the help of the PTI workers and that he succeeded in escaping the trap set by the police to arrest him.

A message shared from Marwat’s official X handle reads, “I managed to escape the attempt of DIR police to abduct me with the heavy duty 300 policemen trying to ABDUCT me, while I was entering Gulabaad near Chakdarrabon my way for tomorrow’s conventionin Bajour. Our workers blocked the road to make it possible for me to escape the abduction!

“I have a clear message! Nothing will stop me from leading the convention tomorrow – Behind Fear is Victory! Everyone must come in large numbers to give them a loud message that we refuse to surrender to the fear you are trying to spread! We will not give up our hope for a better Pakistan and Inshallah we will you all those who have chained our leader Imran Khan and want to see all Pakistan in chains!

“Your breathlessness is only showing how the fear of public uproar has entered you, no matter how desperate you are to stop this new revolution, you will eventually have to surrender this illegal control over our dear homeland Pakistan!”

Also on Friday, Marwat shared PTI founder Imran Khan’s message for Pakhtuns on his X handle.
