ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday suspended Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Mehmood Dogar.
The development came a day after protesters attacked the Governor’s House in the provincial capital.
Last week, the government of Punjab had refused to hand over Dogar’s services to the federal government. Punjab secretary of services informed the Establishment Division about the provincial government’s decision through a letter.
As per the letter, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi wants to keep Dogar in the province.
Punjab, in its letter to the Establishment Division, stated that it needs CCPO’s services to make security arrangements for the PTI’s long march, Sikh pilgrims arriving from India via Wagah Border to celebrate 100 years of Saka Panja Sahib and a religious congregation.
According to sources, this was the third time the Punjab had refused to transfer Dogar’s services to the federal government.
A day earlier, the Centre, via a letter, had ordered the Lahore CCPO to report to the Establishment Division within three days.
