LAHORE – A local court on Sunday sent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi to jail on a 14-day judicial remand in an illegal appointments case.
The court rejected the Anti-Corruption Establishment’s (ACE) request for Elahi’s physical remand in a case pertaining to illegal recruitments to the Punjab Assembly.
Earlier, Elahi was presented before the court by ACE officials amid tight security. He was re-arrested for the third time in two days on Saturday. ACE officials took him away after the court reserved its verdict on their plea for Elahi’s 14-day physical remand.
An ACE spokesperson said that Elahi recruited 12 Grade-17 officers to the Punjab Assembly in violation of merit. “He got changed the results of these candidates belonging to Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin. We have collected evidence and also arrested Punjab Assembly Secretary Rai Mumtaz Hussain in this regard,” he said.
