Pakistan’s top court reserves judgement on deputy speaker’s ruling on no-trust motion

ISLAMABAD — The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday heard arguments from all political parties and reserved the judgement on the National Assembly deputy speaker’s ruling.

On April 3, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri had dismissed a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan as unconstitutional on the ground that it was funded and sponsored by a foreign power.

Hearing the arguments, Supreme Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial observed that deputy speaker’s ruling was erroneous.

The Supreme Court had taken suo motu notice of the political crisis triggered by the deputy speaker’s ruling on Sunday and summoned all the parties to submit arguments in this case.

The Supreme Court, which has been hearing this case since Sunday, has now reserved its judgement on the deputy speaker’s ruling and it would be announced at 7.30pm today (Thursday).
