Pakistan has become the centre of attention as it prepares to host the delegates from Iran and the United States of America for peace talks in the federal capital Islamabad today (Friday).

The development comes just a couple of days after Pakistan brokered a two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States, halting the catastrophic war that began on February 28 with coordinated airstrikes by the US and Israeli air forces on civil and military targets inside Iran.

On Friday, Islamabad was placed on high alert ahead of the high-profile peace negotiations between the United States and Iran, with over 10,000 security personnel deployed to safeguard visiting delegations.

According to sources, a layered security plan has been put in place under military supervision, supported by paramilitary forces including Rangers, along with Islamabad and Punjab police. Traffic management will be handled by the Islamabad Traffic Police and the National Highway and Motorway Police to maintain smooth vehicular movement.

The deployment includes around 6,000 Islamabad police personnel, 900 from the Frontier Constabulary, and 3,000 from the Punjab Constabulary, in addition to Rangers and Pakistan Army troops. Nearly 1,000 traffic officers have also been assigned duty.

Security forces, including the army and Rangers, will oversee the protection of the Red Zone and other sensitive areas. Troops have been stationed at key installations, while Quick Response Force units are positioned at multiple locations. Additional personnel have also been deployed in the Margalla Hills.

Visa-free travel allowed for Iran-US peace talks

In a statement shared on X, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced that airlines have been directed to permit boarding for individuals heading to the Islamabad talks, even if they do not possess a visa.

He further clarified that visas will be granted on arrival by immigration authorities upon entry into the country. The decision is intended to facilitate smooth participation and underscores Islamabad’s commitment to hosting a well-attended and inclusive diplomatic engagement.
