The Punjab government recently allowed three-day Basant celebrations in Lahore from February 6-8 under strict safety protocols. To make Basant a successful event, the Punjab government announced a three-day local holiday in Lahore and free transport to make it easier for the people to move around in the city during these holidays.

Thousands of police personnel and administration officials have been deployed in the city to ensure compliance with the safety protocols. Motorcyclists were directed to have safety rods installed as a measure to prevent deaths from kite string. Kite and twine dealers were registered with the government of Punjab before they were allowed to make kites and twine for Basant in Lahore 2026.
